Sept08 Mosaic

And there it was – 30 pictures, not exactly one per day, but a month’s worth nonetheless. Looking at them, it’s a pretty valid representation of me, a typical month in my life. Looking back, I struggled to find things to photograph and was always plotting (and missing) great photo ops.

What is my life, in the general sense? What’s important to me? Well – it’s the day to day with Handy Hubs. My family. Sporadic home improvement. “sometimes travel.” Food and drink. Craftiness (well, knitting and sewing). The animal kingdom. Friends.

And this month – completely without setting out to – I captured it all.

Repost: September 2

Once upon a time (about 9 months ago), I joined this little thing called Project 365 (/52).

Once upon another time, about 7.5 months ago, I totally bailed on it. Too much pressure, honestly.

I can say that despite this, I have taken more pictures this year than any year recently, and a lot of that has to do with the fantabulous digital SLR that I conned convinced Jason to let us get for the cruise.

Where, exactly, am I going with this?

September is my absolute favorite month of the year. While many (most?) view Spring as a time of rebirth, I am all about Fall. In New England, where I grew up, that all really started in September sometime. Cool mornings. Sweaters. The start of a new school year and all the possibilities that brought. Even as an adult, I still get an almost uncontrollable urge to organize and buy office supplies in September. I find myself turning inward to home and “the nest.” Who needs Spring Cleaning when you can have Fall Cleaning?

So, for one month – just September – I’m going to start anew with this picture-taking thing. Maybe every day, maybe not. A little low-pressure blogging while I get to finishing old sewing and knitting projects, cleaning up a bit, and laying low.

May your September be filled with possibilities, and recognizing this time as a beginning, not an end.

Repost: “Fall is coming….”

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Somewhere around July, inevitably, there will be an oddball nice day or two. J will stand outside, coffee in one hand, cigarette in the other, sniff the air, and say: “Fall is coming.” Usually by September, he’s lapsed into “Winter is coming.”

Nothing like being ahead of the game. It always makes me laugh.
This year, he didn’t break out his fall commentary until this weekend – actually, a weekend that could be considered the start of fall. If it weren’t so foul and hot. Fall is my favorite season – I never quite got over not being able to go back to school, although grad school gave me a nice, 2-year reprieve. Around now I start to want to clean out the house; knit in warmer, more muted colors; break out my sweaters and favorite jeans (which still don’t fit me, by the way); and hit up Office Depot or Target for a mean collection of pens, markers, and paper that I completely don’t need. Fall is my season of rebirth, of starting fresh – with the first chilly morning, I’m awake and motivated to do something, anything, everything.
